hi all,

hope your all well

just wondering if any of you know about the deltec mce600 skimmer.

i just brought one from ebay that is 6 mouths old. it arrived today.
i connected it all up and got it running, but its creating a lot if noise and a lot of tiny bubbles.
i tryed closeing the valve slightly, but still the noise,
is there any think i can do about it?
also when i close the valve half and half, it creats a lot of water in the wast cup, why is this?
and is it sapose to creat a mist of small bubbles or will it settle down soon?

hope you all can help.

thanks clare

Can you describe the noise? Is it a grinding noise, or more like air whistling / being sucked in through a small hole? Did you disassemble the pump to see if it is full of crud / calcium deposits from its prior use?

The bubbling action is what removes the proteins and other organics from saltwater. If you restrict the flow out of the skimmer too much by closing the valve too far, water will be pumping into the skimmer faster than it can exit, which is why water starts overflowing constantly into the waste cup.

Perhaps this link to an online manual for your skimmer will prove useful:

i have the MCE500. it kicks some tail, but it is a lot louder than my other skimmers. I took the scilencer off of my coralife super skimmer and put it over the air intake and that halped a lot, but i woudl still like to try to get it quieter... Also, if you can cover up the openings with some foam or something, that haleps. ill let you know if i find any other ways.

would give that a try for sure ive done the same for some of my old service accounts and it worked a charm.
