Well, two weeks ago, my parents and I took a 4 day trip to SC and GA. We went up to Summerville, South Carolina on Thursday and friday attended a ceremony for my half brother becoming a Chief in the Navy. He is a nuclear engineer and he used to go out on the subs for months, leaving his wife (and my sister in law) home alone worrying. She is so sweet, she's actually one of the only women not related to me whom I get along great with. I guess it's because we have alot in common.
I got to look at the area around where they live, and it seems very homey, and I wouldn't mind at all living near them both.
The other thing I got to do while we were there is experience my first motorcycle ride on back of my brother's Japanese sports bike. 'Wow' is all I can say. You really feel like you're flying on one of those things. When we stopped at a light, he told me to hold on because he was going to speed up. I was surprised when he asked me how fast I thought we were going when we got home, I had thought it around 60 or 70 mph. He told me it was only 50. He said next time I come up, he'd show me just how fast it goes on the interstate.
A good feeling despite my nervousness.
We all left my brother and his wife's house on saturday morning, and it took longer than expected to get to Jasper GA. On the way there, we saw two bad wrecks on the highway; the first was van that looked like it had rolled several times but everyone seemed to be okay; the second was a tanker truck that had went off the road onto the median and exploded. There was nothing left but charred remains of the truck, and its cab was almost buried in the ground, so I don't think anyone could've survived.
The mountains were beautiful driving in, though they weren't snow-capped. All the properties we passed by were huge and wooded, especially near my Uncle's. I finally got to see his place. His house was beautiful, the property was too. I almost felt like my eyes were being fooled at how big an expance the steers' pasture is. I got to feed them bread and pet them over the fence. The bull would be adanger even though he's friendly. They also have guiney chickens, and some other type too. They have the two dogs I met years ago named "Duke & Duchess" both sweet little dogs.
They had two cats, though I only saw one, "Boots" who is mostly black with a white chest and paws. He was one of the friendliest cats I've met in a while. He likes chewing a licking fingers and toes, but he seems to be careful not to hurt you. He almost looked like a baby when he put his paws around one of my fingers while he was chewing.
Saw a cute little hummingbird at one of their feeders in the morning, it was a little female. The males have red throats. I never really see them in florida, they'd probably just get mistaken for a bug. Also saw a cardinal and some crows.
We went off to see the property my Mom and Dad got up on a mountain preserve. It's a gated community and the Cherokee oversee all the development there. I appreciate that fact because I am part Cherokee, whenever they protect land and animals on it, I feel greatful that at least some people still care about its sacredness. I saw some deer on the way to the property at a feeding station down below the road.
For the most part, the few acres were flat and covered with trees. To the very back of the property it overlooks a stream, but we didn't walk back that far. My Dad is going to build the house-plan that he wants there. I'm not sure where I'll end up, but I'd definitely have to get used to those mountain roads. If my brother and his wife stays in SC, I might go there. I'm not even sure of my career path either, it hasn't turned out just yet, but I guess it takes time. It just feels like all I've been doing the past few years is waiting. I think something should be happening soon though.
