Hi

I'm hoping someone can help (with any luck by saying 'oh yeah -they all do that they're fine)

Two of my 8 neons seem to be having some problem staying horizontal in the water. Basically their noses are having to point down (at about 45 degrees) and they are 'jumping' a bit in the water. It sort of looks as though they are trying to stop themselves floating to the top by swimming at an angle. (like when you walk in a heavy wind).

I don't have a quarantine tank - so can't separate them, so am keen to get them treated asap so as not to cause a problem in the rest of the tank..

Can anyone help?

PS Tank parameters all fine, neons have usual colour just weird swimming
 
Mine do it too, and I've heard the same from one other poster as well. I think it is a display thing from females wanting to spawn (someone correct me here!). The fish who do it seem to be ripe. They will do this bobbing thing for a long time, maybe a few hours and be back to normal the next day. I have seen them bobbing, stop to eat and go right back to it. My neons have gotten alot of live mosquito larvae lately complements of my tub pond, maybe they want to breed.
 
Oh thank the lord for that - you really did respond going 'it's totally normal don't fret' !!!!

I will keep an eye on them and see what happens. Obviously when I've previously had neons I didn't have pairs (or they weren't happy - one or the other).

my neons tend t angle themsleves like that from time to time too. i think your alright
 
Good to hear - I have been noticing this behavior recently. 2 of my neons are doing the weird 45 dance.

Update:

They've already went back to being 'normal' - as normal as tetras can be.
