Mystery Algae eater

Hi all,

Thanks for all the replies to the thread below. I think I have found which fish it is I was interrested in. On the list which someone graciously supplied I noticed the first pleco ... it looks like what I saw. Anyway, I did a search using the species name given but all the pictures that were shown with that name were the wrong colors and I found that there are 2 fish that look similar and all that differeciates them is the colors. The fish in the photo is actually Glyptoperichthys joselimaianus , the fish I was interrested in. The fish named in that particular species name is a fish that looks like Glyptoperichthys joselimaianus but the color is suppose to be reversed ... the cream colored spots (shown in the pic) are actually brown spots for the named species. Someone mixed up the photo, that's all.

Anyway, I think the fish are Glyptoperichthys joselimaianus, or Gold Spot Plecos. I looked up info on these fish and it said they are actually armored catfish, is that different then a pleco because I thought they were plecos and I thought the 2 were different (catfish and plecos)? Thanks

I believe pleco's are also known as "suckermouth catfish" so while not looking like the typical catfish, they belong to the same group kinda. I've never personally heard them called "armored catfish" but I can understand the thought though, thir skin is pretty protected what what I think looks like "armored skin".... hopefully someone else can offer better proof....
