I got up this morning to find a clutch of mystery snail eggs in the hood of my tank. Its on the side part of the hood. There is quite a bit of condensation on the hood. The hood has 2 light bulbs that I ususally keep turned on during the day.

So my questions for the experts around here are....

Is it safe to leave the lights on during the day? Will it get to warm and or moist for the clutch? Should I just move it and incubate it?

Thanks

Mary

PS....I am so excited....the Mama snail is from a clutch that I successfully hatched last summer....She is big, healthy and beautiful. I wish I had pictures to share.

I've had good experiences leaving them be but you may have more survivors if you incubate :) Pictures when you can!

i think it really depends on your goals. if you are going for max hatch rate then move it. if you are happy with some i would leave it. it shouldnt get too dried out if you leave it. you could always once a day spray or splash it so it doesnt dry out. i have had plenty that hatched and i never touched it. they laid them under the glass right bellow the light.

not to hijack but how long does it take to hatch?

should be within two weeks that you start seeing baby snails. when the clutch starts looking like the most vile disgusting thing ever, lol, you are close to them hatching out. sometimes a clutch can take up to 4 weeks to hatch, but i've never experienced a timeline that long.

when i was breeding and raising apple snails i pretty much just left the clutches alone and they hatched just fine. this was in an open topped tank, so very little condensation got on the clutches at all, and they were pretty dry and the babies fared fine until hatching.

Thanks for the replies....

I don't want maximum hatch rate.....but enough to put several in each of my tanks and my sisters tanks. She has 5 large tanks at her house....and only a couple snails in one of her tanks.

I think I will leave it where it is for now. The tank just has some oto's, some pgymy cories and 2 snails in it. When I had a clutch last summer, I left it where it was laid. They hatched into a community tank, so I think lots of the babies got munched.

Thanks again for advise.....
