I've had my snails for quite awhile now, and still no eggs. I *think* I have seen them mating, but I am honestly not quite sure. It sure looked like they were, but alas I have never seen snail sex before....:::shrug::::

As far as I can tell, all my parameters are within check and everyone is very healthy. I have tried doing a large water change with warmer water, as recommended.

I have read that females will produce eggs solely for reproductive health, so if I indeed had a female, shouldn't I have seen some eggs by now?

I haven't seen any mating recently....they did go through a phase before where they did it quite often.

Is it possible that I have two males, and they were just exploring or going through a curious phase?

I am going to try to sex them tonight, but I know that it can be difficult...so I was just wondering if this is possibility and I will need a 3rd snail in the tank before I see some babies...

Did you drop your water level?

You can "encourage" them to come otu by holding them on their backs for sexing.

Thanks for all the replies!

Let's see...

1) Yup- that's the site I am using!
2) Yes, my water is dropped. I always keep it significantly dropped for them. I tried going even lower in the past, with no luck. Right now, I think it's about 3 "snails" below the top.
3) Yep, that looks like what they were doing....
4) One is consistently doing the mounting, so I had been guess he is the male.
5) I tried sexing one tonight...but I waited 10 min. and gave up. I had it upside down in my hand for awhile, and then placed it on a paper towel (hoping that the stability would increase my chances), but no luck. Will try again tomorrow...

Your guess about constant mounting is right. Males copulate with almost anyone regardless of the species and gender.lol I also hold their back and they just come out of their shells. Canas are easier as they are already accustomed to my constant handling as I pet and sometimes check their shells.

Lots of great info in here

And sex talk... :P
