Hi all

I've been to the LFS on the weekend and tried to acquire some Maracyn 2 for a possible bacterial infection on a tail fin (same case as previous thread where Melafix didn't work).

Unfortunately I think Australia doesn't have Maracyn 2. I could try mail order from the US but shipping would cost a small fortune. I was recommended Myxazin. Is that similar to Maracyn 2?

I tried searching for the ingredients of Myxazin but I can't find any info on it. I only managed to find out that Maracyn 2 contains Minocycline. Has Myxazin got the same thing in it? Anyone has any experience with either of these meds?

Thanks in advance

Well, the problem is, I'm not too sure myself it its finrot. I've tried the Melafix for 14 days (2 cycles) and still not sign of improvement. I've stopped treatment for 2 days now and it's not getting any better or worse.

No other fish is getting the symptoms.

I just thought if there's a bacterial infection inhibiting its regrowth so I might give Maracyn 2 a shot.

Thanks kveeti for the links. I guess it's unfortunate that there's no indication of the contents of Myxazin. I suppose they would work in a similar way since their 'advertised' effects are fairly similar. Think I might just have to stick to Myxazin since I can't find Maracn2 in Australia

Myxazin is similar to Super Ich Cure by API. It contains formalin, malachite green and acriflavine. Acriflavine is an anti-fungal, malachite green and formalin are anti- protozoal with some antibiotic activity. Not the best substitute for Maracyn II. If you can find any Sulfa-based antibiotic such as Triple Sulfa for fish or Bactrim for people you have a much better substitute.
