So, I went to the WAMAS (Washington Area Marine Aquarium Society) symposium yesterday. Heard some great talks by experts on soft corals, output characteristics of metal halide bulbs and ballasts, clownfish/anemone biology, sustainable harvest of fish and corals, and bleaching of coral reefs in the south Pacific. Tons of info and lots of reefy eye candy.
Then came the raffle. I ended up with a 250W metal halide ballast and a 90 gallon AGA reef ready tank with stand and canopy. If I ever needed a push to get off my duff and start a bigger tank, this is it.
It will need some plumbing, and a sump, and the canopy will need some modification for metal halides. Plus we'll redo the paint job and I need to figure out about which skimmer and what kind of calcium reactor (or maybe I'll DIY).
I'm still not sure whether I can give up the 20 and move everything in, or whether I'll keep both.
Expect a thread soon about plans and progress.
