NASA Space shuttle Discovery

ILOVEBETTAS

It's Cory Lover's cat!
Launched today around 10:35 CT at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. I watched it live at school... a teacher hooked her internet up to a projector so we spent a long time just watching that. It is heading to the ISS (International Space Station). It made a good take-off. :) None of this this time... :flamed:

I lived near Titusville back in the early 90s and watched the Shuttle take off numerous times from my front yard. Night time launches are the best.

Wonder what this launches drama will be, seems like everytime they go up now something is cracked or missing.

Just for your knowledge.

Do you know the space shuttles are considered the most sophisticated machines ever built.

Do you know the Russian Inter Continental Missiles have artifical intelligence. And now are used as space launch vehicals in Europe.

Do you you the most powerful space shuttle Burhan was made by Russians. It was made to counter the American threat to hijack Russians setalites. It flew only once unmanned.

Do you know the destroyed shuttles of Columbia had a crew of a female Indian and and Challenger had a crew of female Israeli astronaut.

Do you know each American shuttle has Russian flag painted in its crew compartment. And each Russian Soyus Space vehicle has American flag painted on it.

Do you know Soyus has over 814 space missions under its belt. That is like 13 every years.

Do you know Soviet Union had one space launch every week.

I hope this increases your knowledge.

Thanks

The most powerful rockets were Saturn 5 that took man to the moon.

And in one of the Apollo mission astronauts left mirror on the surface of the moon. They shoot laser on it from earth and the laser comes back from it to earth and they measure time. They also measure the distance of moon from earth everyday, and speed of earth and moon rotating among other things. The time kept and the clock run by this system is one of the most accurate on the earth.
