Need advice

I have lost 2 of my male bettas to some strange, white fuzz. I guess it is similar to cotton mouth but it was on their bodies instead of their mouths. None of my other fish have been infected. It doesn't seem to be contageous.
My water is perfect and the tank is kept clean. It is a planted tank.
I have one male and one female Betta left in a tank that has 5 platies, one of which is pregnant, and snails. What is the safest way to prevent this fungus from killing more of my fish? I can only guess that stress is what caused it, but these Bettas (Betta Imbellis) are soooooo timid that they get stressed very easily.
Can I use salt? Melafix? Something else? Please help.

Use salt, if that doesn't work try the fungicide. The salt should work. Bettas seem to be especially suseptable to fungal infections. Clean water is key.

The salt won't harm my snails?

I've used salt to cure fungus. Even at a small amount like .2tsp/gal along with frequent water changes (at least 30-40% weekly) will get rid of it. It takes about 2 weeks. And no the salt won't hurt the snails. Anything in the tank can take salt at higher doses (2tsp/gal) for 2 weeks and be fine.

I put the salt in. Some of my snails were NOT happy with it, but they bounced back nicely. So far so good. I will be changing my water Saturday, about 50% and adding another 10 tsps. of salt. (10 gallon). Sound good?

only add 6 teaspoons aka 2 tablespoons, maybe 2 tablespoons and 1 teaspoon at the most because salt does not evaporate, so when you only change 50%, 50% of the salt is still in the tank.
