My molly now appears to have a hole under her and has a long stringy white thing hanging from her. The white thing has been there for about 2 days and is about 3 inches long. I have removed her and put her in to a one galoon tank with the old tanks water.Does Any body have an idea what is going on? the hole is like right before her back bottom fin (not her tail) I don't know the specific name but from the side it looks like it is indented at least an eigth of an inch. She used to have a white/silver patch there which I assumed was her coloring but and now wondering if it was something different. She doesn't swim much, just lays on the bottom. She eats only 1 flake of food when I feed her. But, She mostly just lays on the bottom of the tank. Please help my poor fish! :sad

I'm absolutely not an expert, but your description brings a couple of questions to mind.
BTW The fin is the anal fin, located just behind the anus.
The white stringy thing is probably feces, but is a sign of severe constipation or bloat. This is where my expertese fails. Run a search on constipation and or Bloat. I'd try constipation first. the hole may be nothing more than the Fish natural anatomy epanded due to severe constipation, I would definately stop all food for now, and make sure there isn't a lot of uneaten food left in the tank since this could cause other porblems your fish doesn't need right now.

thank you for your help! i searched this topic and it really sounded like the cause. Now if i can get my fish to eat peas will be another story! Thanks again!!
Your molly should love peas. Mine go crazy for them. My son's guppies didn't seem to know what they were at first but they finally caught on. Frozen is best, remove the skins. I have used canned and found it makes a bigger mess because they are so much softer but it might make her interested faster.

I'd give them about 8-12 hours tops, they will pollute, but not right away. frozen peas are cooked far less than canned and therefore won't pollute things as fast. But as said Canned may be more attractive. I would start with one skinned pea, and see where it goes from there. I would not feed anything else to your tank at all. fish can go for quite while without food, and you dont want your molly to eat anything that will make the situation worse right now.
