Hello.

SO a few months back (I believe the post was in late December) I had posted about accidentally aquiring a kissing gourami from my sister whos bf got it for her in November and the poor thing was kept in a bowl (the stupid pet store didn't tell him anything about how to care for the fish so they just kept it in a bowl). Long story short when she came home for xmas with the fish I went out to Petsmart and asked them for help. The guy gave me the wrong info, I bought a 10 gallon tank, heater filter and 4 other fish. After doing research I brought the 4 fish back. Puff the kissing gourami is in the 10 gallon tank and is doing great. I FINALLY UNDERSTAND THE CYCLE! The ammonia is now 0 and has been at 0 for about a week now. There is some Nitirites and Nitrates showing but I am doing the daily water changes still (any other info on how to get them back to 0 is helpful the water changes seem to help a little with the levels, I've been doing about 25% water changes once a day)

I will be acquring a 75 gallon tank on Saturday, finally! I will be using a supplement to help get the cycle started as I'm not sure if my tank will completely cycle by than. I plan on having the 75 gallon tank up and running for a few days to a week before adding any other fish. I will of course move Puff in there first. Puff was about an inch on December 23, 2009 when I moved him into this big 10 gallon home (from his small cold bowl) and is now 3 inches and has just about doubled, I know he will be double in size when I move him to his big home where he can be free.

My next question is. I very much would like to get other fish and wanted just to get some suggestions. I have been doing research and everything of compatiable fish but just wanted to see what would be best. I was looking at getting a school of rainbow fish and/or Silver Dollars at least 6 and I love the upside down cat fish and wanted to purchase about 4 of them. I also love the Gourami family. I wanted to maybe purchase a few more pink kissing gouramis or one or two of another kind, but I just want to make sure they'd get along, I believe the Dwarf Gourami would be to calm to live with Puff. I also love the Pleco family, though I know they get huge, so I was thinking about getting a bristlenose pleco.

Let me know what you think, I don't want to overcrowd the tank or anything. Since I"m still pretty new to this I wanted some feed back. And again please no negative feedback. I am doing everything I can to get Puff into a proper size home and to do this whole thing right.

Thanks for any help.

Hi jamiejam, ... here are my suggestions....

+ When you get the new tank transfer all of your substrate / decor / filtration from the 10g -- should allow you to continue with your cycling (kudos for getting a larger tank btw)
+ Never kept KG's, but I hear they're pretty aggressive, if it was me, I would do: KG, 6 silver dollars, 1 bushynose pleco, 1 striped raphael catfish
---> No other gouramis to avoid aggression issues
---> raphael instead of the upside-downs (I think you'd have more fun with a raphael)

Good luck!

i work at a pet store and off hand the kg get about 5-8 in i use to have 1 in my 75 as he got bigger he got more aggressive towards other fish. he would just chase he never beat up any fish. as for suggestions
4-6 silver dollars (bigger the school the better)
rainbow they can be consider semi aggressive
5-7 tiger barb(if you don't get a big school they can be a nuisance )
