All my plecs love shrimp pellets and algae waffers. They even swim upside down to eat flake food off the surface. Plecs normally don't have a problem surviving.

Another option as far as plecco choices...
I just bought 5 L104 Panaque Maccus for my 55 gal.
They're small, eat driftwood, and while similar to the Clown Plecco, they're a bit different.
I got them from "DGA" over on AquaBid. He's got a decent selection of the oddball stuff and his facilities are awesome! (he is local to me!)

If you are into something that will stay smaller that does a good job, look into bull dog aka rubber lipped or nose, clowns, and the best by far is the bristle nose
