Need help..newbie here..

Ok Im a new guy here, and to SW..And Ive found this place very informative and helpful. Ive recently set up a 210 gallon tank. Cycled with 100 lbs of live rock and about 50 lbs of base.. I recently bought a Coralife 220 Skimmer I installed it about 3 days ago. now my tank is full of microbubbles..Ive done searches for fixes, Ive tried everything, heres a link.........http://www.tylermerrick.com/content/css_notes.php


ok how long does it take for a skimmer to "break in".. Any suggestions??? Thanks

not sure on the skimmer, but you might want to consider some more rock.. everyone suggests 1 - 1.5 pound per gallon of water. your falling a bit short..

yep its the skimmer, mine does the same thing. Although when I was using Redsea salt, it use to take about 4 days before things where calm again, but i am now using Instant Ocean, and it takes about 1 day and half. I think your one is very simler to my V2 400 if not identical. But it happens every time i do a water change. Can't wait to get a sump tank.

If its a new skimmer, you may find that if you strip it down and wash it in warm soapy water, and rinse well in fres cold water, it makes lots of difference as when it leaves the manufacturer, it has a film all over the plastic...To stop micro bubbles entering the tank, you could try using some sponge in the water outlet...I.E...where the water comes back out of the skimmer, try placing some sponge there which should be able to trap any micro bubbles, or at least reduce them....

May help, may not...but let us know either way mate...Skimmer break in can take over a week sometimes...

You do need about another 100lbs of live rock at least in a tank that size else the the rock wont be doing the mechanical filtration properly...

Thanks for that link. I tried the DIY set-up (about halfway down the page) on one of mine yesterday and it dramatically reduced the microbubbles- you can really notice the difference.

Your recomendations and link is as good as always but not practical for people like myself that have a red sea prizm skimmer. Any advise?
