High guys, I was given a hexagon 60g tank, very nice, but I understand it is not the ideal tank to hold fish. I was hoping to get some feed back on what kind of habitat I could set up here. What would be the ideal aquatic match up for this type of tank?

Thanks in advance

I assume you're looking for a general freshwater setup, not something species spceific like cichlids or discus. I have a 35g hex (not currently in use) and it was fine for a general mix, as long as you don't have many bottom feeders. You will want mainly mid-dwelling fish, as apposed to top or bottom.

Bottom
4-6 corys
1 snail
ghost or amano shrimp

Middle
10 small tetras - silver tip,diamond head, glowlight,or rummynose
5 platies, mollies ,or swordtails

Top
1 dwarf gouraimi - neon or powder blue

Hex tanks are great for angle fish . But I would only keep 1 as a "centerpiece" fish.

EDIT: You know you need to first cycle the tank, yes?

Thanks. Yeah I'm Fine on the cycling thanks. So basically this should be nothing more then a general mix tank? How do plants keep up in this type of tank? Your mix is a very sound one. :)

Depends on the light setup. Hexes tend to be deep, more than 24". Getting light to the bottom can be a problem. The only thing I had in my 35 was anacharis, hygro, and hornwort. I had swords, but they would die sooner or later.

Yeah your right I am better off in just keeping this tank simple and general and save the biotype for a traditional tank.

Thanks

Just a warning. the 60g hex is generally considered the leakiest tank in the hobby. If it doesn't leak now, it probably will eventually. Watch where you put it.
