Need ID on these cichlids...(with pictures)

Hi everyone !

I got 8 fishes at a LFS 2 days ago, the shop keeper said that they are "African Cichlids" but he does not know the actual name so I'm hoping to get an ID so that I know how to take better care of them.

They are convicts and they are a Central American cichlid not African. Look healthy though

Convict is the common name for Amatitlania nigrofasciata Rabbits of the cichlid world is just our way of saying they breed A LOT

They don't look like conventional cons you'd find in any lfs, they might be mixed with hrp's or might be pure honduran red points.

Hmmm...thats a definite possibility.

Those are Honduran Red Points. Possibly with a mix of regular con in them.

I'm new to fish keeping and wanna learn as much about them as the internet allows I tried to Google the comparison between Convicts and HRP but I don't know which web sites to trust...

I'd like to add that although some web sites say that HRPs are shy, these 8 are not shy at all, whenever someone approaches the tank they all come to the front of the tank almost begging for food ! They are really cute (^v^)
