Yo Yo!! I think I've got my parents talked into getting me a new 90 gallon aquarium if I help to fit the bill! Woo hoo!!!! I was needing to know what exactly will I be getting into as far as filtration is concerned. Also, heating, how many heaters will I need. I will be setting this up as a community cichlid tank!! Any other info will be helpful!!

For heating you need 5 watts per gallon of water and you may want to get 2 heaters, to heat the water more evenly. So you could get two 250 watt heaters or the equivalent.
I would research filters, a lot of people with the bigger tanks like the magnum filters, I only have a 44 gallon so am using 2 penguins 125's, with a 90 you could also go with the emporers. It will also depend on the fish you are putting in the tank, if you are thinking Oscars, which are messy, the bigger the better. If you are doing smaller schooling fish, its not as important. But you do want to turn the water over so many times an hour. Let us know what type of fish you are planning on and I bet you'll get some good advice.
Congrats on the almost new tank:D

on my 90g i have an emperor 400 and a fluval 404, also a tetratech 500, but i don't trust the last but at the same time couldn't see it sitting doing nothing at all.......

so my recommendation would be emp 400, fluval 404 and if you wanted even better aq 500........

for heat i use 2 x 250 watt ebos, tronic and visitherm will also work and if it is in a well heated room you could easily do 2 x 200's or *maybe* even 150's......

good luck

Hey! Thanks for the help. I haven't really decided yet. I have been wantng to do a saltwater tank for quite some time. If I stick with FW, maybe an African community tank of some sort. I haven't decided and it will be hard to decide until I know for sure I am getting a new tank.

i have a 90 gal oscar tank (only one oscar, and a pl*co), i use one ac 500 and a fluval 404, they do a good job keeping it clean and clear. for heaters, 2 ebo 250's.

Well, I think my parents and I have agreed on a 55 gallon. They are still talking, but I think I'll get a 55 gallon. I am thinking for filtration> 1 Emporer 400 and a Fluval 204. I am kind of leaning towards a non-aggressive community tank. I have been wanting to try clown loaches and don't think kribs and loches would get along very well. Ideas and thoughts about stocking will help with my decision. BTW, seems like eveytime I setup a tank, it looks better than the last. Anybody else experiance this?? Thanks!
