need info on tunze skimmer

I have the oppurtunity to purchase a Tunze 220/3 for a decent price, but I can't seem to find any info on it. here's the pictures he supplied with the sale.

I went on the tunze website and the closest skimmers I could find was this one:

the thing is, I'm pretty limited in space in my sump, and I know nothing on the Tunze 220/3 model.

Is anyone familiar with this type of model? I think it's an older model that has since been discontinued, but it is brand new, and he's asking for 100$ can.

I need to know if I can fit it in the sump area, whether it needs to be internal, or if it can hang on the side of the sump.


Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Oh yeah, here's a picture of my current sump setup. I'd like to fit a skimmer in there if possible. I have about 8" on the side exterior and about 6" in the chamber on the left.

My plan would be to move the sump to the extreme right , which would leave me with a clear 8" of cabinet space to hopefully fit a skimmer into.

Cheech: I have lots of experience with Tunze but on not on the particular skimmer you have pictured. I looks very much like the model that Grins has and seemed to like it. I had the 9014 and found it to be a bit touchy....to the point of inefficient because there was always some tweaking to be had. I currently have an ASM and it is a true plug-n-play and pulls all sorts of skimmate out. It can be in sump or mounted out of the sump. Mine is in the sump. Hope this helps...let me know if there is something more.

BTW: really like your sump. You are brave doing the DSB.

thank you. I'd like the asm, but they're a little off my price range right now.

Thanks for the comment on the sump.. The DSB was suggested to me by reefscape, so i figured I'd give it a shot! So far so good.. .


Considering the seller is asking for 100$ can. I'll probably pick it up and hope for the best.

I didn't find much on that skimmer, either... Other than a few price lists that had it selling for around $230 (US) new. No real info about how well it works or anything. There was one site that sells the model(s) that replaced that one, which also had a pricey kit to add on a secondary sump to hold the skimmer outside an existing sump. It's kind of weird, especially for the $140 price tag it had on it.

Cheech: I think the only thing you would have to consider is that you will need to have some sort of platform to elevate the skimmer so that it is not sitting too deep in the water of the sump. Tunze is very sensitive to water levels, more so than Octopus or ASM.
