Hello again!
I would like some advice please on appropriate equipment. I am gearing up for a 54 gallon corner unit with a bow front. Initially it will be a FOWLR but potentially will add some easy coral. Because of the corner, I cannot have anything hanging off it and I am getting so confused about which products to buy in terms of circulation and skimming. I think I will also need advice on how to set up the plumbing. Many of the skimmers are “in-sump” and I am not sure if I will have a sump because truthfully, I am not sure what exactly a sump is and how it differs from a wet/dry tickle which I do not intend on having.…as I said, I am confused. I did get a recommendation for a Coralife Skimmer earlier, but don’t know how to plumb it in.
For circulation do I use a water pump or powerhead(s)? I know I need aprx 1000gph, but again, the plumbing has me thinking…The tank is equipped with an overflow in the back corner and two plumbing outlets on the bottom of the tank.
Sorry for all the questions, but once I get over this part, I think I will be OK with the chemistry stuff.
Any specific product recommendations and plumbing diagrams would be most welcome.
It seems the more I read…the less I know….
I think I am OK with aragonite sand, lighting, test kits, salt, chemicals, etc. I’ve been doing tons of reading here and in books as well.
Thanks in advance for all your help. It is great to have friendly, knowledgeable contacts!!

Please read this article I wrote that will at least get you straight on what a sump is and how skimming works to help you better decide how to set up your tank. If after you read that you have any questions fire away!!!

BTW I would suggest the coralife super skimmer 65 in a sump under your tank.

Thanks for the link to the article and to a new forum! More information! I will get the Coralife skimmer and find a sump. I see some websites selling them, and I which check in with my lfs.
I sense that for water movement, I should go with a CLM. Can you point me anywhere to get some set-up instructions and equipment needs?
Thanks again.

They make that tank with a built in overflow. Allglass has it. Then all you have to do is have a wet dry filter run the tank. You could literally push the tank against the wall with no problems. The heatewr and protein skimmer would be in the sump.

Excellent article jojo

Thanks for the info. I am still researching, and getting tons for information.

the 54 gallow bow front (all-glass)has a built-in overflow, but the manufacturer says it can handle total of 600 gph wich is only 11x per hour, and I keep readinging I need 20x per hour. Do you think this will work? Also the way it is set up in the back corner, do you think i also need powerheads? Or will that depend on the configuration of the LR placement?
