Yesterday I had three german blue rams, two female one male. The male died this morning. I noticed that both females have that ovipositor thing poking out this weekend also. They've all been acting weird this weekend, but never made the connection till now. The two females have been very friendly towards each other, no aggression or anything, hiding out in the back around this big plant. Now I just noticed there are several eggs on this one leaf. Both of them are guarding them.
HOw do I know if they are fertilized? if they are, how long till hatch?

Any help appreciated, thanks

if they are not fertilized they will turn white.

are the ovipositors the same on both?
d you know if the male was alive when the eggs were laid?

don't know if the male was alive when they were laid. It's possible, I haven't been very observant since friday, so there's a chance?

both females look almost identical.

as i watch them now, they or one of them will make passes over the eggs, I assume they are laying more eggs, just can't get a good visual.

When i first saw the eggs i was shocked, then posted. I'm thinking maybe they're laying them now. I'll have to watch.

Guess I'll need to get me a new male.

yes the eggs will turn white if not fertilized, but if they are eggs that r layed never take longer then 2-5 days to hatch, depends on the kind of fish as well but usually u will start to see them hatch before they actually start swimming you will see tails wiggling or anything like that the eggs moving.........but since the 2 females r being so nice there may be a good chance you have a male and a female and just don't realize it maby the 1 just resembles a female, that could be why the other dies too..................good luck Jen
