Need to add fish now - Nitrite = 3

The debate is why bother if it is a dead product. But anyway, Im past that point because I must have successfully seeded the tank with my filter since I got nitrates so quickly.

I like that point about teaching that good things are worth waiting for...Everyone wants the fish now, but anyway the kids (age 3-6) are always interested just to see me fooling around with the tank. (What are you doing? Why? What does that mean? How does that help? What are you putting in the water?)

Anyway, of course the animals should be cared for. On the other hand, my first tank did a fishy cycle because noone told me any different, and those fish survived. Now that I know better, I don't want to stress fish more than necessary, but it seems like a nice water change will do the trick.

A 5x dose of prime may help detoxify the nitrite, but it sounds a little risky. I couldn't tell you if the fish would be fine or not.

it says right on the bottle "To detoxify nitrite in an emergency, up to 5 times normal dose may be used"

to get rid of nitrate --> water changes
