Im pretty sure Im getting a bigger tank for my 3 goldies (got a great offer, just have to convince my hubby ;) Should I move my male betta into the free 10 gallon tank? He is housed in a 1.5 gallon tank right now. Could I put in anything else to live with him? (keep in mind we only have a walmart as our fish supplier, so nothing exotic) Or should I keep my betta in his home, and mabey go tropical and try something new? Just can't decide what to do.... Im soo excited!! *keep fingers crossed that I can convince my husband!*

Yeah you could put some corys in there with him in the 10g. Also Walmert sells 55G tanks and a metal stand for a reasonable price, or if you live anywhere near southern Illinois I'll have a 55g with wooden stand available in a month.

LoL! I love your avatar.

Congrats on the goldfish and tank! Good to see that someone is not overstocking!

I would move the Betta over to the 10g. It would be much happier there. And you can get a few ADF to go with it. That would be a nice tank!

Good Luck!

Would LOVE a 55 gallon and stand - but im in upper canada. Too far :( What are cories like? Are they fresh water fish?

Ten gallon makes a nice home for a beta. Certainly makes them more actice and you can appreciate his full beauty. Tropical is better for a beta although they can survive without a heater they like their water warmer than room temperature. A couple of ottos for algae control in a 10 gallon is a nice addition. I have kept cherry barbs, and cardinals with bettas in a 10 gallon aquariums. I tried croaking goramis once which are supposed to be peaceful but the gouramis nipped the beta incessantly. I've tried various shrimp but the Betta ate them. Any small peaceful fish can work. White Clouds are nice as well if you don't go tropical.

Here's a great site on corydoras catfish: http://www.corydorasworld.com/

The betta would love the ten gallon tank. I would certainly add tankmates for the betta, but you can keep him alone if you want. Cories or ADF's are both great tankmates for a betta, or a small grouping tetra, like neons.

I vote for the betta in the tank mate with 3-5 corys or otos. It is so easy to overstock a 10g tank, its almost impossilbe to do, and when it isn't it looks so empty!!! But I moved my betta from a 2.5g tank to a 10g tank and hes like a new fish, alot more active and fun to watch, we swims all over the tank, and even hangs out in a little cave once in a while :p:

I agree, I think your betta would love the 10 gallon. I know mine is a lot more active than he used to be and swims at all levels of the tank, including through the cave and under the driftwood. Cory cats are a nice choice as are the ADFs. I would recommend a heater, though.
