Hey everyone :) Again.

Im buying a 2 foot, 30g tank this afternoon. I am going to seed it with my other tank media... But this was my plan. Just to have a white sand substrate (they have heaps at lfs), some shells and some Neolamprologus multifasciatus (Shellies) which are african cichlids. They are very small and I would like another cichlid species in there with it. (that wont kill the other :P) So can anyone suggest tank mates for the shellies that would suit a 30g? Thanks :)

Look into Julidochromis (specifically the smaller species like transcriptus and ornatus) and possibly other smaller "lamprologines" that inhibit rocky space. Juvenile calvus would work well for a few years as they are notoriously slow growers. They would probably need something like a 55 gallon in the long run though depending on how many you get.

You would need to setup the tank so the shell pit is on one side for the shellies and then have a big rock pile on the other side.

Haydn, I'm confused; are you sure it is a 30gal? Commonly, a 2ft (24 inches) tank is really a 20gal high tank. Can you give us all of its dimensions?

I can't yet, sorry. It's advertised as a 2 foot 30g so I will see this afternoon. And thanks for the suggestions. I will have quite a few rocks in there. Making caves etc :)

This might be difficult. I tried to keep multis with other Tangs in a 20 long (30") and it didn't work out. The Multis are really aggressive and many of my other fish were beaten if they came anywhere near their side of the tank. I eventually removed the multis and my fish were immediately thankful for it.

Okay: dimensions: they guy selling it wasn't a very bright light bulb. Lmao. It's actually a 2.5 foot tank... Its dimenions are (LxWxH): 75x42x35cm... Iteresting measurements but hey it works :) I'll post pics tommorrow of me setting it up etc.

I had some young calvus and C. brichardi and a young electric blue hap at one point. The hap got the worst beating. One of my poor calvus was banished by the other 2 to the shellies side of the tank. He was constantly harassed and tried to hide in the floating plants. He hardly got enough to eat.
