are neons sensitive fish or can they deal with a cycling tank? when you get them how many should be in the group for a 10 and 20 gallon tank?

Neons will absolutely not survive the rigors of cycling. If you are planning a fishie cycling then I would recommend some small danios. You can always return them when the cycle is complete and then get the fish that you want. Have you considered a fishless cycle? This way no fish has to suffer the cycle process.

while Danios are good for cycling,.....not sure I agree with the "return them" portion of this post.

Even though hardy, a danio will still take some stress from going through a cycle. So their lives have just been shortened, and you want to return them so the next chump gets your "life shortened" fish?

Also Danios are normally (at least here) so cheap, that I wouldn't even bother taking them back. IF one must do a fish cycle, then at least keep the poor fish you subject them to the process. You owe them that much!

just a quick thing....i put my 6 neons through 2 cycles, before i knew bout the harms of cycling with fish...none of my neons died and they are of great health (but still from the majority of people neons are not hardy and should not be used in a cycle)

...maybe you should breed your Neons. And give some to me. *jk*

ok im going to wait until the tank cycles before i add them. so how many of them to i add to a 10 and a 20 gallon tank?

i think im only going to put them in the ten gallon and put live plants in it. im trying to keep the tank natural and not over crowded

If you are going to keep plants and they are going to be the only fish in the aquarium I would say 10 or 12 would be OK.
