Am quarantining 24 Neon Tetras now..

20 Gallon Tank, Still cycling. In the Nitrite process now..

When I bought them, a few of them had what seems to be cotton on its mouth.. Like sprouting a bread.. Then the ICK came along...

Used a Commercial Medication that was 'Anti-fungal' but also stated that it cures white spot.
It worked, the white spots were gone and so did 2 of the tetras.. but the rest survived..

However, the 'beard' or whateva piece of white stuff that is below its mouth is still there..

Did a 80% PWC and then use Mela and Pima Fix for 5 days.
Noticed scratching, and did a salt dip for the fishes.

Did a 20%PWC.

Now the fishes are behaving normal.. eating well, being active but still the white 'beard' is there.
It does not seem to be contagious.

Do I have to worry about it?

Or its time for them to join the other fishy fishys in the main tank?

Thanks!

Picture might be helpful for those knowledgeable enough to help you with your problem (not me). :)

Just to be on the safe side, I wouldn't add them until the "beard" is gone. And when the beard goes away, I'd wait about 2 weeks or so before adding them to the main tank, just to be REALLY sure that there isn't anything wrong with them.

I would wait a couple more weeks, just to be on the safe side. It's a lot easier to treat them in a quarantine tank where it won't compromise the health of your other fish. :)

i cant get pictures.. my camera isnt that good and they are really small and fast...

seems like they are okay.. and i'd waited like 2 weeks already... and i need to stock up more...

any1 else have in mind any other disease they can be possibly suffering from?

thanks

It could be cotton mouth but without pics its hard to say really.
U say you bought these tetra like this?
Im glad i have good a lfs locally as its a family run business and it is the lively hood of the whole family, they qt all fish and will not sell an unhealthy fish to customers. Even though you have already QT'd for 2 weeks, it is evident that the fish are still not healthy enough to go into the main tank. I have to agree with the previous post about continuing the QT process. The life cycle of infections may not seem contagious, however that can all change in an instant and you could very well be putting your main tank at risk of infection.

You're not seriously considering adding MORE fish into what appears to be an already unhealthy environment...are you??? Two weeks is not a long time to wait when you're dealing with aquariums! IMO that would be unnecessarily cruel!!

it could be this or that ... but the question is.. they arent displaying any signs of sickness except for the appearance!

eating well, moving well.. schooling well.. etc..and it doesnt seem to be contagious !

yet, i have to agree.. QT is still the best bet right now.. any idea wads the MAXIMUM duration for the incubation period (time where disease shows no symptoms) of all the diseases?

Thanks

*edit* tank is cycled. will be carrying out prolonged salt bath in tank..

AIDs doesn't always bother the host for sometimes years after the initial infection. Just because they don't display symptoms other than their appearance, doesn't mean they won't. :)
