I have a neon tetra that has developed a large belly over the last few weeks. Now it has a large encapsulated sac exiting from the bottom of the fish. I have had these fish for several months now without any probelms. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions? Also will the other fish in the tank be infected? the infected fish is also staying close to the bottom of the tank.

Whitish stringy-like poop is generally an indicator of parasites. I went through this with my gouramis, the first swelled up huuuuge w/out pineconing, died, second swelled some, was miserable so I euthanized him, the third lived. I isolated all 3 and started with Maracyn2, then went to prazi, which is more for parasites. I'm sure others will chime in with better advice, but I'd isolate that little bugger immediately, research meds (there's one that combines the prazi with something else, and medicated food as well), but that's my recent experience. Good luck.
