I started a 10 Gal Saltwater Tank about 2 weeks ago i have 10 pounds of live rock and about 1" - 1 & 1/2" of live sand. I have 2 Hermit crabs 1 blue and 1 scarlet. I also have 2 Mexican Turbo Snails. I am trying to make sure the water and the tank is clean and ready for a couple of small fish. But back to what i need to find out about. A couple of days ago i started noticing these brownish egg sacks floating near the top of the water. I am not sure what they are so i started cleaning them out. But at this same time i have noticed these small clear looking insect-like creatures roaming around in the sand and on the rocks, and also on the snails. Does anyone know what these may be? Any help would be apreciated. thanxs alot.

Have you tested the water? Without testing, there's no way to know if the tank will support fish-the bacteria won't be visible.

For the floaters--no clue--they probably are not egg scas, though, since neither the snails nor the hermits will produce a sack, much less one that floats. They also are not related to teh clear looking guys--which are probably some form of a 'pod'--copopods, isopods, etc are very common hithchikers on live rock. They are good detrivores, and also a source of food for most fish. No worries with them.

Can you get a picture of the floaters?

I heard about mantis shrimp and i wasn't sure if it could be that.
I have a picture, but i don't know how to add it to the thread. I will add it as soon as i can figure it out. Thanxs alot. By the way i have checked the water all is good except for the nitrite is still a little high. Waiting a few more days for it to lower. It whent higher when i added the live rock.

Sorry the picture is too large to upload. But they look like insect eggs. i am not going to worry about it any more. Thanxs alot anyway.
