Zebra danios will not do well in a tank that size. They are fast fish and ened room. You can put a betta or maybe a couple of least killifish in it.

i have a 2.5gal with a betta, african dwarf frog and two ottos (the tanks been up almost a year and had a lot of alge but they keep it down now)
anyway they get along great the betta is happy and the adf is happy i feed them freze dride and frozen blodworms and it works out really good with that combination i would definatly suggest you do this. i also have a red sea nano filter on with a carbon bag and sponges works a lot better than a under gravle filter and awhole lot better than none at all

OK, I am an advocate for only one fish that will thrive in a tank this small and do very well for people
The fish I recommend is the Heterandria formosa, aka the least killie or dwarf live bearer. This guys are hard to come by, these are usually a special order from your pet shop but they are great fish.
The males reach about 1/4 of an inch long at full adult hood and the females are larger at an inch. They are very peaceful fish and thrive in tiny tanks. I own a small colony right now in my 5 gallon. I plan on getting more soon for an outdoor container. But they do well having plants like hornwort floating on the top of the tank and they eat crushed fish flakes.

uh, no thanks. can i just put 2 red wag platies and 1 very small algae eater? cuz the filter isnt that good and algae builds up fast.

I wold suggest not putting platies in a 2.5G i would add a betta and an ADF and your stocked!
