new 5 gallon

That's an awesome setup, great for the paradise. I have a black female in a 5 at work--she's fiesty! Attacks anything, gives visitors to my office the hairy eyebal, and can jump 2-3 inches above the waterline. You'll want to watch that--mine hasn't jumped out, but she could if it weren't for the hood. She'll actually jump up to take food from my fingers, through the opening in the hood. I do NOT encourage her to do this, but haven't figured out how to stop her. She sees the food, and leaps at it.

mine jumps for food too, I usualy have a lid on the tank just took it off for the pic.
I put some snails in with her to eat her leftovers but she ate them (the snails not the leftovers) they were about 1cm long and shes only about 5cm so I wouldnt fancy a shrimps chances with her.

Didn't say there was a problem with it, just that it's not something I encourage. Having a 3 inch fish jumping is different that having a larger fish jump for food, and since I can't patrol my tank 24 hours a day, having a fish that might jump out if someone else opens the top is not ideal.

Can you provide more pictures? I would really like to see more of the tank. That is completly amazing. Is there a power filter in there or is it just the plant? What is that object that is going around the plant in your first picture? Where did you get the tank? Do you add fertilizer to the plant? I guess I want as much info as possible. I would like to do that myself.

I'll deconstruct it tomorrow and post pics of it in the diy forum for ya.
The brown thing in the first picture is ceramic, I dont know what its use was outside the tank.
I planned the whole setup before sourcing anything and I wanted a nice piece of driftwood with java moss growing on it as a centerpiece. when I hind the right peice I'll replace the ceramic thing with it.
The pump is a sicce mouse set at about 100L/h
havent needed to fertilze the plant, its showing no signs of deficiency... yet
The peace lily the perfect plant for this kind of setup as it favours low nutrient levels. I do a 50% water change once a week which should provide extra minerals for the plant.
The system has been running for over a month in a room with alot of natural light and it hasnt grown any algae on the glass so it must be working.
