New 72 gallon bowfront...and Cichlids

Maybe you should go with Central American cichlids like geophagus species. A group of "redhead" geos are quite a site and they spawn regularly and take care of their fry.
All you would need to do for the decor for the "eartheaters" would be to add some play sand to the gravel, some rocks, driftwood with some anubias and/or ferns (plants optional) and you are set.
I really like Geophagus species. A couple things though: they are SOUTH American, not Central. Most like much softer, more acidic than Central American cichlids generally inhabit (Central Americans usually enjoy conditions similar to rift lake species). Also, they really require sand as they spend pretty much all day sifting through the sand. They wouldn't be able to do this very well on anything but the very smallest gravel

Also, when it comes to the Rift Lakes, I greatly prefer Lake Tanganyika, but that's just a personal preference
