I purchased a 90 gallon tank and stand from PetCo 2 and a half months ago and suddently it made a creaking noise and water started gushing out from the frame in one of the lower corners. I was able to rescue my fish, but PetCo will not replace it (despite the lifetime warranty) and they told me to contact the manufacturer (Aqueon). I called them and only got to leave a voicemail (last Friday). I am going to try again Monday since the manufacturer is closed on the weekends. My question is, has anybody here dealt with Aqueon for a defective tank, and how long did it take for them to replace it? I'm afraid they are going to tell me to take it back to PetCo, and they will not help me. Also if both refuse to replace it, should I not try to reseal it myself due to the creaking noise that may indicate a much more serious problem than a bad seal?

If you get no cooperation over normal customer service channels after repeated attempts. Try and find out the corporate offices fax and email addresses of both companies and then address letter, fax and email to both CEO's. It could be that these companies are actually owned by a larger company so make sure you have the right head cooperate offices. In your email explain politely their obligation replace or repair the tank, and your deep desire not to make an argument and involve the FTC and BBB. That should do it.

Aqueon,, isn't that all glass??

I had issues with them for my 110X. they told me to deal with the distributor/seller.

I had issues with the LFS that sold it to me.
they would stand by the product and had local place that would repair the tank(leak)

I bought a tube of silicone from dr fosters and fixed it myself.

the tank buyer's nightmare is here. i hope they resolve it for you. gunner has some good ideas, as does star_rider.

I know that I work for Petco and their return policy is 30 days after that then you have to contact the manufacturer and deal with them. Petco doesn't make the product so the manufacturers will have to correct the defect. Remember the "Lifetime Warranty" is not from Petco or any other store but who made the product. It is possible that the manufacturer will contact the store to see if you can drop off the tank there. Before that can happen the manufacturer has to contact Petco and they have to contact you. I wouldn't try and fix it yourself because that would void out the warranty.

All-Glass is now Aqueon, same company different name. They also own Oceanic as well.

Don't give up, keep writing and calling the manufacturer and after a while they will eventually replace it!:swear:

Just keep hammering customer service at the manufacturer . . . polite and persistent (maybe even very persistent) almost always gets a good result.

I've seen PetCo tanks on the showroom floor be really badly mistreated, then still kept out for sale. The worst offender was a 40G hex with a huge chip in one of the joints, and splitting silicon on the top frame. On "sale" for 10 percent off. The Aqueon brand looks like it uses thinner and cheaper glass than other brands, too.

It's no bash on PetCo in general, I mean, the cat and dog supplies have great prices, but the fish section always seems to have more issues. I go there now to look in the clearance bin for fish stuff - found mopani driftwood for a dollar (instead of $15 or $20), and a big bottle of water conditioner for just a few dollars, about 50 percent off. I'd look elsewhere for fish and expensive supplies, though.
