My LFS just happened to have some angelfish today. They are what I guess is black marble? And they appear to be veils to me, but I don't have any experience with angelfish, so I haven't seen that many. Can someone please tell me if they are veils or not?

I have heard the only way to tell male from female is that the female has a sunk in head and the male has a hump on his head, is that correct? If so I think I have 1 female and 2 male. What do you think?

So, if that is right should I take 1 male back, or get a couple more for the group to make them happy?

Thanks so much!!!

Nice fish. As for the sex of them. You really can't be 100% sure until spawning when the breeding tubes are showing.

Nice angelfish.

Jlink is right as the only 100% way to guarantee sex is to see their breeding tubes.

Sometimes you can tell by their sex by their attitudes ( typically the males will show LOTS more aggression toward other angelfish, males will also shake their fins rapidly, do fake "jumping" at one another, etc. When they do this, their fins will stick straight in the air, and they will basically go stiff. (LOL!!!..). 4+ month old males also seem to show more bright colors, have a larger hump on the crown ( head) area, and are just all around more agressive toward any other fish.

Young Female angelfish normally are more laid back, will hang together in groups, and basically just mind their own business.

Male angelfish will typically fight with each other, although sometimes you can have a male angelfish sweetheart.

I purhcased 5 baby high coverage angelfish, and I already have 1 mean one from the batch. That angel likes to run the tank.

Great looking angels!

Thanks everyone!

These three seem pretty cool with each other, so I guess I'll leave it at that. I'm still amazed I found such nice ones at my LFS. I was there when the boxes came in! :D

They still look really good this morning, I'll try to take some better pics. Still learning about my new camera. lol

Thanks again!
