hi, i recently bought a 55g and i plan on making it a freshwater angelfish tank...i was wondering what other fish go well with them, and what kind of plants i should grow...i know angelfish like planted tanks, and i plan on growing real plants...ones that thrive in medium or low light. thanks

I have a 55 gallon angel tank. I have two koi angels. Their tank mates include a school of rummy-nose tetras, a school of cardinal tetras, and cory catfish. All these species live together in the Amazon. Angels are great community fish. They do like acidic, soft, warm(78-80) water so tankmates who also like those conditions workout best. Angels do not destroy plants so the plant selection depends on ur lighting and experience. I always include sword plants, they are the plant of choice for angels to lay their eggs. Any tall plant will be apreciated so that they can swim through it.

I think Golden Goramies go well with Angels.I have a pair of Koi angels and silver angels in my 35g and that tank is a community.

Some of the larger tetra species, corydoras catfish, otocinculus catfish if you want algae eaters, harlequinn rasboras, cherry barbs, the real question is what do you like? Stocking suggestions are always hard because people are limited by what they like and own. What is it you like? Colorful fish? Fast fish? Schoolers? Have you seen anything you want to put in and just don't know about compatibility? That helps folks more in finding fish that are not only compatible with your angels, but compatible with you as well. ;)

my tank has angels, corys, and clown faced loaches. the loaches provide a bit of comic relief from the dignified, serious angels.

dont' forget rainbow fish :D

I wouldn't put gold gouramis with angels, pearl gouramis but not gold.

I agree. Gold gouramis and angel fish both like to be the boss of the tank. Pearl gouramis hold the same dignity as the angels. Would be nice together. Hmm... I should get a pair of pearl gouramis again! ... And no evil dwarf gourami to beat up the male pearl.
