Just bought my first Betta a couple days ago and have a question on his feeding. I am handfeeding some very small Betta pellets by Wardley, but when he eats them he does a funny little head nod like they are hard to get down. Are you supposed to soften them first?

I also got some freezedried bloodworms. How often/how much is ok. He slurped down three this morning.

Any other feeding suggestions to add variety for him are appreciated.

Thanks!

:OT: Anyone who thinks Bettas are happiest in a cup of water needs to turn one loose in a 20G! He is all over the place. I thought he would just find a spot and hang out pretty motionless like you see them in the store, but he swims all over and always comes to the glass when I check out the tank. Great Fish!

its normal,he's chewing ;)
but I always soak the pellets first,a minute or 2 will work,it makes it much easier for them.

AGREED!!!

I have a rock in my 10 gallon tank with two holes through it. My Beta likes to swim through one hole in one direction and back through the other the other way. He is all over the tank and seems much better than he did in his cup.

I feed my bettas Frozen bloodworms every other day alternating with pellet food.

1 feeding a day, 2-4 BW is sufficient. If you are heavy on frozen, high-protein foods (like BW, shrimp, etc.) skip feeding one day a week to allow the betta to clean out his digestive system a bit.

The only thing with the rock with holes, is make sure the holes in the rock are plenty big enough to let him through without scraping himself on the sides. Bettas have been known to get stuck/injured scraping themselves against it.

And if you really want your betta to love you, get 'em some java moss. It's like a cushion and they love to sleep in it :girl:

Really?? Java moss.

I caught one of my Albino Cory's sleeping on a bed of Java Moss.

Alright! 1 soft bed of Javamoss for my Siamese tomorrow!

Oh, bettas absolutely love java moss. Just as much as they love java ferns. Particularilly if you get a big leafy clump of them, they love to swim through them.

i got my from petco..
