1 fish 2 fish: I don't know if her colours would get as nice without the male in the tank. I have heard of cichlids laying eggs in their tank without any male to fertilize them, if that's the case these colours may still become apparant without a male.

What size tank are they currently in? I'm looking into some african cichlid for my old 10 gal....

funkifish: The pair of Convicts are alone in a 33 gallon tank. These are New World Cichlids.

If you're looking for Africans to put in a 10 gallon you'll have to stick to something small like some shell dwellers.
