Hi,

I brought some Bogwood from my LFS and let it soak for a week, constantly changing the water. After that I placed them in my tank. The water went Orange. I did a couple of water changes and the colour always went back to Orange. So last night I took the Bogwood out and soaked it again, there is still heaps of colour coming from the bogwood. My question is:

HOW DO I SPEED THIS PROCESS UP?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, it is for my 4 ft tank so the three pieces are all too big. When I am home I pour Boiling water over the wood then hot tap water. Once it is cool, I repeat. I have heard you can use bleach, not thinking that is a good idea though.

ditto. boiling will leach all the tannins out very quickly. adding carbon to the filter will get the orang out of your tank water quickly. Some say boiling makes the wood break down sooner. I haven't found this to be the case, but it might depend on the type of wood.

I think the best solution would be to soak it in hot water from your tap, changing the water out every few hours. It may take up to a week or two to leach all the tannins out if you don't boil it..

oops, you beat me to the reply. no, I wouldn't use bleach. Perhaps fill your bathtub with hot water and toss them in there? Just keep doing what you're doing and eventually the tannins will all leach out.
