I've fed my fish frozen Brine Shrimp and Blood Worms before, and I've just bought this feeder system off ebay that looks pretty good. It says it can be used with SW and FW (which is good because I'm all FW!), and I've also got some eggs on the way too for hatching. Anyway, question is has anyone else had any experience with this sort of thing? Any disasters? Happy Endings? That sort of thing?

Wow. Absolutely nobody so far. I am underwhelmed. Anyway, I'll start a thread when it arrives and I've got it up and running. Hopefully I will have some photos, too!

I don't have one of these things, but I've thought about getting one when I was breeding angelfish. I never got around to buying one, just hatching BBS the old fashioned way, but that device seems kind of cool. It's the one that is sort of candy cane shaped, and mounts to the inside of your tank with suction cups? Let us know how these things work and I might pick one up when I start up my angelfish hatchery again.

Yep, that's the one: http://www.animalworldnetwork.com/noname5.html. I paid $16 US for it on ebay, which is the same price. It's in the mail along with some eggs, so I'll get it up and running. Maybe I'll also take some photos if it works. I will let you know how it goes!

I made my own "hatchery" got a vial of eggs and had great sucess. I have seen those kits but thought i'd try a DIY first.
The trick to it is getting the shrimp out of the solution! I used a torch (they go to the light), ladled out top layer and ran it through a coffee filter and fed to fish - they liked it but no where near as much as they do frozen for some reason!

cool kit though - good luck

Thanks. Kit hasn't arrived as yet being Christmas and an overseas posting, but I haven't forgotten!

i have been wanting one myself. let us know please! btw, drs foster and smith have it cheaper than on ebay.
funny, it was there a month ago. now i can't find it.

OK, the brine shrimp feeder arrived yesterday via the post from the US and it looks great. I can't seem to source any eggs locally, but as mentioned before I do have some on the way from the US which shouldn't be too far away now. The setup seems pretty easy (the salt water remains mostly in the larger chamber owing to it's gravity and does not enter the tank. The construction (so the instructions say) is in such a way that the light from my tank should encourage the little buggers to swim and enter the tank via the small outlet (which is meshed to keep it one-way). Came with all the bits and pieces to hook it up right away.

As soon as the eggs arrive, I'll be onto it right away and will post the results, perhaps with some photos if I can master that!

NB Owing to the potential for disaster, I will be hooking it up to the 2 ft tank for a test run. While I love my goldfish very much, you can check my sig. to understand why this is so.

Eggs are off and running. After installing a new external canister filter on my 2ft tank, I've elected to now try brine shrimp out on the 3ft tank. If it stuffs up, I'm not going to be too happy, but it was easier to place the unit in the tank.

Anyway, i'm not going to post on this one, as it's pretty dull - check out the previous picture and imagine it underwater with some sand granules in it...that's pretty much it. 24-36hrs later, I should be either bringing out the dead, or watching the new borns live long enough to get into the main tank...

I will keep udates running!
