Howdy,

I got a smaller Foxface Rabbitfish on September 15th. As expected, when we put him in the tank he turned really dark and blotchy. It's been a couple weeks now and most of his body is still pretty much a solid black color. Should he still 2 weeks later be blotchy? He's never once gone back to his normal coloring.

Here's my tank specs:

46 gallon bowfront. Rena XP3 Canister Filter, Coralife Super Skimmer for up to 65 gallons. Two Maxi-Jet 1200's with Hydor Flo water deflectors. 200 Watt Marineland Stealth heater. About 50-70 lbs. of live rock. Current USA 36" Power Compacts w/ 1 - Dual Daylight Lamp (10,000K and 6,700K) and 1 - Dual Actinic Lamp (420nm and 460nm).

Tank's Inhabitants:

Scarlet Hermit Crabs, turbo snails, nassarius snails
Serpent Starfish
2 Condys
Toadstool Leather coral
Finger leather coral
Hydnophora
Yellow Tang
Flame Angel
Foxface Rabbitfish

just put a medium size rabbit fish in my 120 gallon on thursday also.

he hid for a few hours and today he is busy swimming, eating and color is almost normal.

He is probably a) stressed about being in a small tank (depends how big he is but 3' tank is small for them) and more than likely b) is getting HIGHLY stressed by the yellow tang. They are generally not good together as they are somewhat similar especially in eating habits. If I were you I would decide on one (actually neither should be in a 3' tank) and return the other. Anyway hope this helps and good luck.
