I wish sites like this were around 15 years ago.

I am setting up a new tank and have been out of the hobbies for 6 years. So I have some experience but am rusty.

This will be my first planted aquarium. I've done several reef and various fresh.

Ideal size tanks for planted under 40 gallons? Do you want them high for growth but then you need more light right?

Is there a simple system for planted without co2 and various techno stuff. If there are some proven simple systems could you provide links and pictures?

Right when I was getting out of the hobby there was a new book on planted aquariums. It had a really gorgeous cover. I was looking for that book and could not find it today at the Aquarium shop in my area. I think it was written by a Japanese man. Any ideas I would like a copy.

Also - Best place to buy tanks cheap? I was looking over many posts and it seems like Oceana brand is well recommended with the curved front glass. My local shops do not carry those. Any help there?

Thanks for your time.

Dan

Hi: You came to the right place :) There is alot of information under Aquatic Plants thread. Just read over it, you'll find many answers to your questions.
I learned the hard way, that a tank that is wider than the standard 12 inch is easier to plant and nicer to look at depth wise. Tall isn't necessarily good, because you'll want to be able to get into the tank to plant and prune and the light reaching bottom is another thing to think about, you'll need stronger light. But, some people like tall plants so.........its best to have an idea of what you want to do first. What kind of fish you want to keep etc.,, and plan your layout. Lucky you!

Try looking at plant geek.com website and the 'aquatic gardener's assocoiation' website, quite interesting. :)
