New mystery snail

I picked up a nice looking ivory since I haven't had a "big" snail in a long time and think they're pretty awesome. He went into my betta tank last night so I could keep an easier eye on him while he acclimates to my water conditions, and this morning while I was looking for him, I saw this (bad lighting since there's a window opposite the tank):



I've seen these guys temporarily bury themselves, but I've never had one make a hat out of my plants before .

He could be acclimating. But keep an eye on your betta - they can harass snails and cause them to hole up like that. I've experienced that first hand.

Thanks for that...although I'm not seriously worried yet. Jango lives very peacefully with cherry and amano shrimp, ramshorns, and I even grew out some swordtail fry in there without him eating any. He's about as mellow/lazy as a betta can get, and that plus it being a small tank where I can keep a close eye on things is why I chose it for acclimation .
