new otocinclus died overnight

I bought two ottos and put them in my newly cycled q-tank, one died overnight. I went back and bought three more hoping two of the five would make it. Ended up with 4 out of 5 making it.

Busy little guys! I doubt they would be able to control any brown algae problems however. Mine love algae wafers.

The rock that was covered with brown algae in my q-tank would never have been cleaned off by the ottos (my obeservation only).
Two of my Nerite snails wiped out that algae in one day.

Here is a good photo of a double wammy for brown algae!

Mine eat brown diatoms like crazy. Before purchasing some for my 29 gallon, I let the brown algae grow out as opposed to scraping the glass so that they would have plenty of fresh food. (brown algae grows quick in my tanks because I have fairly hard water) I have had some in my 29 gallon for the past two months, and I have never scraped brown algae since. Now, I moved 2 to my 10 gallon and I can already see little algae-free trails the width of their lips on the tank. As long as they have visably full bellies, you probably don't need to supplement their diet. When I run out of algae I feed blanched cucumber and algae wafers. Just don't feed so often that they become lazy and quit cleaning.
