Hey all! I wanted to thank everyone on the advice from my previous posting:

Hello, all! Got a question...and a story...

Last night my son went to a carnival with my niece and spent 10 dollars trying to win a goldfish. He didn't win...so my sister-in-law told him she'd get him a goldfish from Petco...

He comes home with an Angelfish and a Rainbow Shark...along with food for them and AquaSafe, and also a little decoration for the tank.

I don't mind this at all, but I had not prepared anything for an Angelfish or a Rainbow Shark.

We have a 10 gallon tank, and had a heater here.

What else should I get for the tank? I am really completely clueless.

I also wanted to get him a few more fish, but am unsure if the ten gallon tank will be big enough for any more fish. I don't want to crowd them. Right now, they are little, probably no bigger than 1-1/2 inches long. Any idea what kinds of fish would get along with Angelfish? He saw a picture of a Cardinal Tetra and seemed to be interested in them.

I know I also need (assuming, actually) other chemicals and stuff for the water?

Thank you for any help offered!

-Pam

Here's a new question:
I did some research, and have come up with what I can afford...which is a 30 gallon tank. What kind of fish are good to go in it?

Some tetras would be nice. Some neons, blind caves are interesting, hatchets are good. Get some juli eyed catfish for bottom cleaners and if you want some good algae eaters to keep the glass clean I would say some hong kong plecos. This way you have fish on the top, center and bottom.

dont buy a fish just to get rid of algae. its the fishkeeper's job to clean the tank of algae, not a fish's that will just introduce more waste to a system.

as for the 30 gallon, it all really depends on what you want to put in the tank. there are several biotopes that you can successfully house in a 30 gallon, so it is all up to you.

I'm thinking a theme tank (and starting it) with my 30g.

I've found neon tetras to be colorful and hardy fish.

Best bet would be to go to your pet store (hopefully better staffed than a Wal-Mart or PetCo.... PetCo might be good but often find their fish dept people lacking in knowledge compared to a Ma & Pa Store)... look at what they have, find a fish that appeals to you and ask the staff what other fish they get along with. :)

I would get rid of the shark and base the 30 around the sole angel....

Unfortunetly, the Angelfish died sometime during the night last night. So, all I we have left is the Shark. I feel bad because I know that the water probably was not up to par for it. I also feel bad because my son calls everyday asking how his fish are...except for of course today.

I might just go with the neon tetras.

Thanks agaiN!

Rainbow sharks aren't exceptionally aggressive, but I could see some possibility of them picking on neons a little. If you are setting up a 30 gallon around the shark, I'd personally go with something a little larger and more active like tiger barbs. They aren't really aggressive fish, but they will probably do some chasing and make the tank very active and entertaining
