New T8s ??

Hi all, just a quick note on my new lights.
I was pursuaded by my lfs to try the new HOBBIE T8 tubes instead of upgrading to T5s (MH may cause heat issuses) they are rated at 20000 kv.
Has anybody else tried these or heard of results?:idea:
They have been on my aquairum since december 2006 with only one problem the ends on one tube went black and this was replaced FOC.
I do not know of anyone else using these tubes!

In my opinion T8 tubes are actually less effective for corals that T5, and it is certainly a type of tube light that i would not recomend. When i first setup my FOWLR tank, that had T8 lighting, and i struggled to keep shrooms very well...

Sorry if it may sound a little harsh, but i believe an honest opinion is best....

I've just replaced one of my tubes with one of these and it is loads better than the previous tubes I've been using. It's so much brighter.

Edit: I must point out that I have only just replaced it

the colours in the tank are so much nicer/brighter with t5 or even higher, my mushrooms now turn inside out where as with my t8's they were just closed and white. i got a 4xt5 arcadia luminaire, it does the job perfectly for my tank.

T-5 and metal halide are the two most effeicient light types you can buy right now, and the most developed. There is no way NO T-8's can compete with these lights... I don't care how good your LFS says these "hobby" tubes are, you can only get so good with that format of light.

BTW, I'm using T-8's... just becuase I barely made my limited budget I had for my upgrade a few months back (not exactly liking my setup right now).
