After many years of fresh water fish, I decided to try salt. I have a 90 gallon with coner flow with a 20 gallon sump. I decided that since I want to go with corals I would try the deep sand bed theory. After much searching, I purchaced the Aragamax suger sized sand. I had read thories for both washing and not washing the sand before use and the LFS said they never wash the sand because there are benefits from the smaller particles that get rinsed away. To make a long story shorter, I added the water, adjusted the salinity/specific gravity, got it on temp and circulated for a few days. The I added the sand. Placed the bags in the tank and cut them open. The water was very cloudy and I couldn't see 2 inches into the tank. Everyone says be patient, it will settle. It has been 3 days with both a HOT Magnum w/ micron filter and a Fluval 404 with carbon. There does not appear to be any clearing in sight. Any suggestions, or should a wait it out? Today I shut off the overflow to reduce the mixing of the tank and I'm just running the two filters. Any help would be appreciated.

It should settle, however I turned off my powerheads when adding my sand. did not turn them on until maybe the next day. Hopefully others will chime in if my way is not true to normal.

Thanks for the encouragment. Everyone I've talked to says it will settle, but they usually say a couple days and I have seen no improvement after 3+ days. Thanks again.

Turn off your power heads for a few days and it will settle down. It will be a bit milky for a while but, no worries.
cheers
Max

I will try shutting everything down overnight and see if there is any improvement. Thanks.
