Okay. I bought a 29 gal for my angels. I still have them in the 10 gal.. And well I was wondering.. What if I dumped that water into my new tank and added 19 more gallons? Would that be bad or good? The 10 gallons of water is fully cycled.

Or. Should I just cycle 29 gallons in that tank and then transfer my angels?

The water won't make any positive difference, you'll just import the wastes. If you're keeping the 10 running, you'll want to cycle the 29, but you could import some of the bacteria from the 10 to give it a kick start. If the 10 will be coming down, you can just move the filter media from the 10 into the filter for the 29, and move the fish over immediately. You'll want to verify that the water parameters in the 29 are a close match, or plan on doing an acclimation.

If you are worried about that ammonia you used at all, I might just start the new tank fresh. And congrats on the bigger tank, they'll be much happier to have the room to grow :thm:

I'll just cycle it fresh.. Then move them over. When I do move them over, just scoop 'em out with the net and into the new one, right?

I'd say cycle the 29 gallon fully and keep the angels in the ten gal. until then. A few more weeks in a 10 won't kill them.

I second that full cycle and yes you can net them but if it is very far you can fill a bucket with dechlorinated correct temp. water and net them in there then carry them, but thats only if your are concerned. Congrats on new tank!

If I were you I would just fill up the 29 with declorinated water and transfer all your gravel, plants and decorations and filter media to the 29 and add your fish. Just don't clean or rinse anything off. All that cycle is doing is waiting for bacteria to grow to take care of the bad stuff. If your 10 is already cycled all that bacteria is in your filter media and gravel etc. so if you move all that bacteria along with the fish you'll be fine. Make sure you add the fish at the same time, if you transfer all that bacteria and it has no fish waste to feed on it will die and you'll have to cycle again. But why wait to cycle the 29 when it will be cycled as soon as you introduce all that bacteria from the 10. I wouldn't worry about transferring the water though cause the bacteria is in the filter, gravel etc. Go for it! Why wait?!

Hey, why don't you float some bio balls in your 10 gallon for a few days and then put them in the 29 gallon with some ammonia?

Got that idea from Dave and it's a great one. I'm going to do that with ALL my new tanks. No messing with filters and crap, just float da balls.
