Newbie -- Needs Your Assistance

Bio Spira

The bio spira was stored in a fridge. I have heard of duds, which is why I asked the question. The LFS is the only one in the Toledo area that stocks it.
I checked both tanks yesterday and I'm getting 2.0 on the Ammonia and less than .3 on my nitides. That is why I am wondering about water changes, but I don't want to disrupt the bio spira.

I checked ammonia and nitrides in both tanks.

Amm 4.0
nitrides > .3

Am I being impatient or did I buy a dud bio spira. I added Jungle Labs ACE to try and bring down Amm levels
Please Help me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Vootsy I have read the entire thread. LOL Toledo water sucks. I know! I used to live in BG. I suggest you get a bottle of Prime and add nothing to your tank except this product until you get the ammonia down. Bio-Spira takes about two weeks to work. As many have suggested you should continue to monitor your water quality and I would suggest doing daily 25% water changes. In the mean time you should become acquainted with Gary from Gary's Tropical Fish. He is a little "old school" but he is really nice and always willing to try and help.

That is where I actually bought the bio spira. He is the only one who carries it in the Toledo area. After the Prime application and water changes should I reapply with a fresh dose of bio spira. LOL

First do a 40% water change today and only add prime wait 2-4 hours then test your water parameters. The original batch of Bio-Spira may be working but the results may have been distorted by the ACE.

Thanks for your replies. After work I will pick up some Prime and pick up another 3 oz. of bio spira from Gary. Might as well, it can't hurt.

Bacteria Bloom

I woke up this morning with a somewhat milk colored light cloudiness. Could this be from the bio spira working and should I continue with the water changes?
Clueless in Toledo.

Nope, it's normal. This bacterial bloom will go away in a day or two, once sufficient quantities of the bacteria have settled in the gravel, filter, etc. and out of the water column.
