How do I post a new thread about planted tanks. I'm thinking about switching
from plastic

Post the question in the aquatic plant sub forum

Water Changes

Should I continue with the daily water changes? By the way, I lost a red rainbow fish. It kills me to lose a fish.

Water Changes

I have been able to get my amm down to .5 and my nitrides are .3 after 2 water changes using Aquasafe because I have it and Gary at Gary's tropical Fish said it doesn't matter what you use as long as it is not in the Amquel Plus family of products. I will be out of town next week for work. By the way both my Bala Sharks have very bright white bulging eyes on one side. Any ideas? Another question, would a tap water filter help? Lost both red rainbow fish and my swordtail today. It kills me because I am responsible for there health LOL

Sound like you are almost there. Just hang in there. I was just at Gary's today and was a little disappointed to see he does not carry Prime. You can pick it up at any PetSmart for a decent price. As far as your bala sharks it is hard to tell what is wrong with them; it could be a number of things. IMO a water filter will not be necessary unless you are looking to keep more delicate species than what you have. I'm sorry you lost more fish, but as long as you learned from your mistakes you will benefit from the experience.

Hey Buckeye

You're the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did Gary give you his opinion about water conditioners and Bio Spira?
I will go to Petsmart today to pick up some Prime. Gary is out of Bio Spira I am stuck, in Indiana this week. Hopefully, he'll have some left when I get back to Toledo.

GO BUCKS TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I said Gary is "Old School". ;) He sticks with what worked in the past. I am always searching for what works better in the now. AquaSafe was better product in the past and with recent changes to the formula I would be hesitant to even use it now. I was using API's water conditioner but my LFS stopped carrying it, so I switched to Prime and could not be happier. As far as water conditioners I was not concerned that it interfered Bio-Spira as much as giving you false positive NH3, NO2, NO3 readings. Your readings showed much improvement so I'm not sure you need to add anymore Bio-Spira. Good Luck! :D GO BUCKS!!!

Bio spira

Yes and no. If it caused a huge bacterial bloom (white water) it could lead to problems. Give it another week and if the water parameters are still off by a lot then maybe you could give it another try. Death to the Gators!!!
