Does the level of nitrate in a tank effect the need to acclimate more carefully if they are different? I have some fish in QT I might move into the main tank today and am just curious if that is something to worry about? I never really thought about it before. In the past I have just scooped the fish from one tank to the other b/c the temp., ph, are exactly the same and not had any problems, but I did mysteriously lose a couple of corys after the last time I QT'ed them for a few weeks.

I think that depends on how different the Nitrate levels are. I would guess in your situation they are probobly not that different? Within 10ppm. If so I cant imagine it being much of a factor....if you start getting over 50ppm then you should probobly do a water change anyways to get the Nitrate levels down anyways. And moving a fish from 10ppm to 60ppm water might be cause for concern.

I will test before I do any moving (I just checked and the temp is a few degrees off, so I'm going to let it adjust before I move anyone), but I assume they are close. Just one of those things I had never thought about before :)

If the nitrates are lower than it is no problem but if they are alot higher like 40 or 50ppm than you might have some problems

Nitrates are the least of the 3 evils (Ammonia, Nitrite then Nitrate). I agree with the above posts. If the difference is high (greater than say 15 ppm) I would acclimate them personally. If less, I say dump them in (assuming all other parameters are similar that is).

Good Luck
