Non fish in a beginner tank?

Was at the LFS and noticed small crabs, snails, and little water frogs. They seemed neat. What are you opinions?

Get yourself a snail! Personally, I can find myself watching the little bugger for hours as he cruises from one side of the tank to the other. They also break up food, waste, and algae that sits on the bottom of the tank, which makes gravel vac much easier, IMO.

I used to have a bunch of snails in with my betta. I found that they were more interesting than the fish! Yay snails!

what type of snail and how big? I see these "Mystery Snails" at the pet shop...

Hi,

Those little water frogs are probably African Dwarf Frogs (ADFs). They are hardy and are very interesting. I would get them for sure.

I had mystery snails! They're great! I've read they can grow to be the size of baseballs, but none of mine ever got bigger than 2" in diameter. You can read up on them at www.applesnail.net. There's tons of info.

Go to www.aquabid.com Tons of beautiful Brig snails there. Pinks, blues, purples etc... All natural and very reasonably priced...I breed brig snails and they make an excellent wet pet, particuarly for kids... They are very active and quite comical. I love them.

Applesnail is a bit of a 'catch all term"... Pomacea Brigesii (Brigs) stay about ping pong ball sized and are safe with plants. Pomacea Caniculata (cana) can get very large. I have 4 that are as big as a tennis ball. Word of caution-they eat evrything.
