mg: NO!! after i got home today, i notice my koi angelfish was missing :eek3: i looked for him and found him stuck behind the filter T^T hes injured, forcing me to move him into the tank in my room so the other fish dont pick at his bleeding "thing". What should I do to help him get better, hes in a cycled 10 gallon tank by himself, i moved the guppies out, the temp is around the high and low 80's naturally because of the weather. I will feed him dried mysis shrimps and his normal food. What can i also do to help him?
is the angel able to swim, eat, poop? is he looking really stressed? is there any sign of infection on the wound or around it? if you could post photos of his injury that would help us. if it is really really severe then certain meds are not a good idea as they may irritate the wound and hamper healing. until you get sound opinions from members here i would just do frequent water changes and monitor very very closely. also, IMO, don't put any salt in his water, it will irritate the wound for sure.
thanks, yesterday when i found him, hes able to swim, but last night's temp dropped really badly, from the 90's to the 70's, stupid weather >=[ . I know thats really bad, hes probably very stressed and is on the floor gasping, I tried feeding him yesterday but he didnt eat it
Hold off on using medications unless you think the wound is infected (pics would help). Right now I'd focus on keeping the water pristine which should help the wound heal faster. I'd reccomend daily water changes of about 25%. Adult fish can go up to a week without eating, so I wouldn't feed him unless he looks really hungry or, if you do feed him, remove any uneaten food ASAP.
i would be getting a heater for that tank, as large temperature fluctuations are not good for healthy fish, never mind an injured and stressed one. set it for 78-80. a 50watt heater will be more than enough.
i agree, feed sparsely and don't let waste accumulate in the tank. daily water changes are a must.
well, he didnt make it =( , thanks for all your help
and i did have a heater on that tank, but its realy hot over here and the temp goes up to 90++ and the heater still turns on, and i turned it off
